What to watch: Premier League streams for week of Sept. 6

Premier League action returns with a highly anticipated slate of matches following the international break. At the forefront, Cristiano Ronaldo makes his return to Old Trafford.

Here’s everything you need to know about the key Premier League Matchday 4 fixtures.

Man United vs. Newcastle

As the transfer window neared a close it looked like Ronaldo would don Manchester City blue, a United fan’s nightmare, but the Red Devils highjacked the deal to bring one of soccer’s all-time greats back to the ground where he became a superstar.

In six seasons with United, Ronaldo scored 118 goals, won three Premier League titles from 2007 to 2009 and a UEFA champions league trophy in 2008, all by the time he was 23. The Portuguese goal-scoring machine then moved to Real Madrid for the prime of his career, but he left an everlasting mark on the Premier League.

Now, he’s back. And though he’s a different player than when he left, 36-year-old Ronaldo is still one of the world’s best. Just this summer he led Euro 2020 in goals, and over the international break he became the men’s all-time leading international scorer with two late tallies vs. Republic of Ireland.

When United takes the pitch at Old Trafford on Saturday, “CR7” can make his second debut in front of the Red Devils faithful. He may not start, as the international break and quarantine rules haven’t allowed him much time to train with the team, but you can expect he’ll come in as a substitute, and you won’t want to miss it.

United already has a plethora of talent with Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who scored the winner vs. Wolves before the break and has three goals in three games to start the season. Jadon Sancho could miss Saturday’s match after suffering a knock in England training.

Newcastle will be in tough. The northern club is still looking for its first win of the Premier League campaign, and it’s not likely to come at what’s sure to be a raucous Old Trafford.

Leicester City vs. Man City

Will Man City score five goals again?

After a season-opening loss vs. Spurs, City has responded with back-to-back 5-0 wins against Norwich and Arsenal, proving they’ll be just fine without the frontman they’ve been pursuing. The champions, who already have eight different goal scorers this season, look like an unstoppable freight train ready to run over any club that stands in their path. What’s more, star players Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden are nearing full health and could feature in Saturday’s match at the King Power Stadium. Scary hours.

But Leicester should put up a fight, and at very least finish the match with a more respectable scoreline than City’s previous two opponents. With two goals and an assist to his name thus far, usual suspect Jamie Vardy has led the Foxes to a 2-0-1 record, identical to City. Young midfield talent Youri Tielemans suffered an injury while training with Belgium but should be available for the Foxes this weekend after playing in Belgium’s most recent match.

With the way they're playing, Man City would shock no one by scoring five goals, but last September it was Vardy’s hat trick vs. the Cityzens that powered Leicester to five goals of their own in a 5-2 victory. Could history repeat itself?

Leeds United vs. Liverpool

Liverpool visits Leeds with both clubs standing at opposite ends of the table. While the Reds have yet to lose a match this season, the Whites are still searching for their first win. Last season they drew at Elland Road, and that’s a result Leeds would be happy to replicate considering the disparity in each team’s form.

Liverpool, however, will be hoping for more, especially after dropping points in a draw vs. 10-man Chelsea on Matchday 3. Mohamed Salah looks as dominant as ever, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota round out a terrifying front three, Roberto Firmino waits in the wings on the bench, and Virgil van Dijk looks closer to his Ballon d’Or-contending form with each appearance.

Leeds have struggled to look like the side that finished in the top 10 of the Premier League last season but should receive a boost from deadline-day transfer Daniel James. The 23-year-old Wales international joined the Yorkshire club on a £25 million fee from Manchester United and should make his debut this weekend. Watch for the explosive winger to thrive in a prominent role alongside Patrick Bamford for the always-attacking Leeds.

It’s Jurgen Klopp vs. Marcelo Bielsa, or high-flying offence vs. high-flying offence. Tune in for what should be goals galore.
