The 2021-22 Premier League season is off and running after a cracking first weekend filled with spectacular goals and shocking upsets.

Matchday 2 features a London derby between two clubs on different trajectories, a battle between old friends, and two teams hoping to defy the odds for a top-four finish. Here’s everything you need to know about Premier League action this week.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Sunday, Aug. 22 at 11:30AM | Live stream

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Arsenal, they kick off a Premier League campaign with defeat to Brentford, who were playing a first top-flight match since 1947.

Now, to redeem themselves from the embarrassing defeat, the Gunners will have to try their luck against crosstown rivals and Champions League winners Chelsea.

The Blues are a well-oiled machine that cruised to a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in their opening match. From Timo Werner to Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, and Kai Havertz, Chelsea is loaded with offensive weapons, and the squad could get even scarier come Sunday.

Target man Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea on a club-record £97.5 million transfer from Inter Milan last week, and bench boss Thomas Tuchel is hopeful he’ll have the Belgian force on the pitch this weekend. As if Gunners fans didn’t already have enough to worry about…

But an Arsenal upset isn’t out of the question – just last May the North London club defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a lone goal from young talent Emile Smith-Rowe. They’ll likely have to do it without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, though. The prolific goal scorer is reportedly for sale and garnering interest from Barcelona along with teammate Alexandre Lacazette.

Will London be red or blue after the weekend? Tune in to find out.

Wolves vs. Tottenham

Sunday, Aug. 22 at 9:00AM | Live stream

Nuno Espirito Santo enters his old stomping grounds with a Premier League victory managing his new club already under his belt.

Tottenham kicked off the season with a 1-0 upset victory at home against Premier League champions Manchester City, without star striker Harry Kane, who was left out of the squad due to a lack of fitness.

Spurs might have to get used to playing without Kane, as the England captain could be on the move to Man City should Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy be satisfied with the offer. With or without Kane, Spurs will be looking to carry their momentum to Molineux with forward Son Heung-min continuing to thrive under the new manager.

Nuno helped bring Wolves from England’s second tier to Premier League relevancy before leaving for London in the off-season, marking a new era for the Wanderers under Bruno Lage’s supervision.

Still, much of the foundation remains intact with Adama Traore, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Conor Coady and Raul Jimenez (back in action after suffering a fractured skull last season) in the squad. Lage is still looking for his first win at the helm after a hard-fought loss to Leicester City last weekend.

West Ham vs. Leicester City

Monday, Aug. 23 at 3:00PM | Live stream

Both Leicester City and West Ham United are looking to build off season-opening victories and take a step into the coveted top four of the Premier League after fifth and sixth place finishes last season, respectively. Between the two, only Leicester has managed to do once.

Last weekend, Leicester defeated Wolves 1-0 thanks to a stellar first-half finish from the inimitable Jamie Vardy and a solid performance from 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel. West Ham mounted a relentless 4-2 comeback victory against Newcastle United driven by striker Michail Antonio.

The two evenly matched squads enter their first meeting since West Ham did the double last season. The Hammers last got the better of the Foxes when the two sides took the pitch at London Stadium in April, but they’ll have to do so without Jesse Lingard, who scored a brace in that match but remains at Manchester United after spending part of last season on loan in East London.

If either club aspires for a top-four finish, they’ll need results in these closely contested matches.
