West Ham fans may feel like their club is facing an emergency but Essex Police have been forced to remind them that it doesn’t require the Old Bill’s intervention.

Hammers boss David Moyes saw his reign begin in frustrating fashion at Vicarage Road, where Watford ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison.

It seems some West Ham supporters deemed their performance to be criminal… but Essex Police Control Room urged them not to dial emergency services to vent their frustrations.

The Essex Police Force Control Room account wrote on Twitter: “Ringing 999 because West Ham United have lost again and you aren’t sure what to do is not acceptable!

“It is a complete waste of our time #999foremergenciesonly”

Defeat away to Watford, their third in four games, left West Ham in the Premier League’s bottom three, a point away from safety.

The match was punctuated by chants and banners against board members David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady by travelling supporters. After full-time Moyes called for unity, saying: “We need a united club.

“I know that’s hard to say and you have grievances, those supporters will know much better than I do about history [with the owners] or the past or what they think.”
