Week 4 Coaches (and GMs) on the hot seat: Could London be unkind to another coach?

The first London game of the season, held in Week 4, has not been kind to the losing coach over the last couple of years. In 2014, the Oakland Raiders lost to the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium, dropping them to 0-4, and head coach Dennis Allen was canned when the team returned.

Last year, when AFC East rival New York Jets and Miami Dolphins went to London, the Dolphins landed in the U.K. winless – and left winless. Head coach Joe Philbin was shown the door.

On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will head to their second home to face the Indianapolis Colts.

This is the fourth year at the helm for head coach Gus Bradley, and for the third time in those four years the team is off to an 0-3 start, dropping the franchise’s record to 12-39 with him in charge. The Jaguars spent big this year to bring in big-name free agents, but it hasn’t seemed to help yet, and quarterback Blake Bortles, well he seems to be more of a garbage-time QB than big-time QB.

Could Bradley be the third coach in a row to be fired after the first London game?

On the Hot Seat

Gus Bradley, Jacksonville: Will team owner Shad Khan pull the trigger now? He gave Bradley a one-year extension, through 2017, in January, but the Jaguars lost in the last minute to Baltimore last week; they pushed the Packers in the opener but couldn’t close the deal.

Jacksonville has a fairly favorable stretch after its post-London bye, in Chicago, hosting Oakland and then in Tennessee.

Seat’s Getting Warm

Mike McCoy, San Diego: McCoy was already on thin ice coming into this season, and it’s been a roller coaster through the first three games: the Chargers were up 24-3 on the Chiefs midway through the third quarter of the opener, only to lose in overtime; then they beat up on the Jaguars, and last week, in Indianapolis, they were up 19-13 in the third and lost, 26-22.

The team has suffered key injuries, but great teams find a way to win through adversity.

Seat’s Still Warm

Rex Ryan, Buffalo: The Bills may have gotten the surprise win of the weekend on Sunday in their wire-to-wire victory against the Arizona Cardinals, but this week they travel to New England, where they’ll face either a backup (Jimmy Garoppolo) or a third-string rookie (Jacoby Brissett). A loss there, and the fan base will be restless once again.

Ryan Grigson (GM) and Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis: Notice a pattern here? The Colts got their first win of the season on Sunday against the Chargers, and the Chargers’ only win came against the Jaguars. The Colts’ next opponent: Jacksonville. It’s like a carousel of mediocrity. Statistically, the Colts’ defense is one of the worst in the league, and has already given up 95 points to opponents, putting a lot of pressure on the offense.
