Water shortage causes UNC game against Notre Dame to be moved to Sunday

No. 12 North Carolina’s game against Notre Dame has been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. due to a water shortage that caused UNC to cancel classes on Friday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday evening at the Smith Center.

According to the Orange Water and Sewer Authority, the water shortage caused emergency warnings after a major water main broke on Friday.

UNC cited fire concerns and the water shortage for canceling classes after 1 p.m. Roy Williams’ 2 p.m. press conference was also canceled. The campus community was also advised, “please DO NOT drink the water.”

Now, Notre Dame (17-6, 6-4 ACC), which has lost three straight, will fly out to North Carolina late Saturday morning instead of their planned 5 p.m. trip Friday.

“We don’t run any set plays, so we are always flexible,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said.

North Carolina (20-4, 8-2), which rebounded from a loss last weekend to Miami to knock off Pitt on Tuesday, said that tickets for Saturday’s game will be honored on Sunday. The game be televised on ESPN news and can be aired via an internet-only broadcast.
