Though he’s still rehabbing from offseason foot surgery, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is doing well enough to field some grounders and take batting practice.

Edelman, entering his eighth season in the NFL, was at Fenway Park on Wednesday, before his adopted team, the Red Sox, hosted his childhood team, the San Francisco Giants. He donned a glove and played some shortstop, and then grabbed a bat to take a few cuts.

According to Edelman, he hit “six or seven” balls over the famed Green Monster. “It’s all fun,” he said of standing in the batter’s box. “I played baseball growing up and to get to come out to a big league park and see these guys it puts in perspective how good these guys are. These guys are studs.”

Edelman got to spend some time with Red Sox third-base coach Brian Butterfield, a huge Patriots fan, and also met third baseman Travis Shaw, who like Edelman played at Kent State.

Just a couple of Flash bros saying, ‘what’s up?’ at Fenway,” Edelman said, referring to the school’s nickname, the Golden Flashes. “That’s pretty cool. Our school is not really the biggest when it comes to guys coming out [and going to the pros].”

Asked about teammate Tom Brady stopping his legal fight and accepting his four-game suspension, Edelman demurred: “I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to enjoy America’s pastime,” he said.
