Watch: Michael Bisping gets KO'd by savage left hand at UFC Shanghai

Fans in Shanghai witnessed the falling of a giant at the UFC’s first event staged in mainland China Saturday.

Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping was knocked out halfway through the first round by Kelvin Gastelum in the card’s main event. A raucous crowd fell absolutely silent as a Bisping was caught with a vicious left hand and fell to the canvas for his second stoppage loss in three weeks.

The reason Bisping was allowed to fight in China to begin with just 21 days after getting dropped and submitted by Georges St-Pierre is a little murky, as he was given a 30-day medical suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission after the defeat to GSP. The ban was reportedly dropped from 30 to seven days, which allowed Bisping to headline the card at UFC Fight Night 122.

Bisping took the risky fight on short notice against the dangerous Gastelum as a fill-in for Anderson Silva, who was removed from the card after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Englishman won’t be letting his career end on this tough note, however, as Bisping announced after the bout that he still plans to retire on home soil in March after UFC Fight Night 127 at The O2 in London, England.
