Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Katy Perry is leaving American Idol after the show's upcoming 22nd season.
The singer and television personality announced her final season on the singing reality competition series during Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Perry joined American Idol as a judge in Season 16 and will return alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in Season 22.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Perry voiced her love for American Idol but said she is ready to spread her wings.
"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol. I mean, I love Idol so much. It's connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat."
Perry will perform at Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil in September. She also teased new music on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, saying it will be "a very, very exciting year for all pop star girlies."
"I've been in the studio for a while," she added. "I love the show so much but I want to go and see the world, maybe bring new music."
Perry confirmed on Instagram that Season 22 will be her "last season" on American Idol. The season will premiere Sunday on ABC.
Perry released her most recent album, Smile, in August 2020. She has since released the single "Electric" for Pokémon 25: The Album and "When I'm Gone" with Alesso.
