With the end of Succession, a new contender for the coveted Sunday night HBO spot has entered the ring. After months of controversy, Sam Levinson's The Idol premieres on June 4. The show stars Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd.

Levinson has been praised for his hit HBO show Euphoria, starring Zendaya, but The Idol was met with bad reviews after debuting at Cannes Film Festival in May. There were rumors of toxic conditions on set from Levinson, and Depp said she avoided Tesfaye when he was “in character.”

Depp plays a pop star named Jocelyn who is wildly famous, but experiences a mental breakdown and feels the need to reinvent herself. She meets a self-help coach named Tedros, played by Tesfaye, who does not seem to have her best interests at heart. The show reportedly contains some very graphic sexual imagery that is particularly disturbing in how it treats Depp's character. Will viewers still be tuning in? Here's how, if you're interested.
