The Super Bowl XVII championship ring that was presented to Washington Redskins linebacker Mel Kaufman is for sale on eBay.
Kaufman, who died in 2009 at age 50, was a member of the Redskins for eight seasons from 1981 to 1988 and started on three NFC championship teams. According to the ad, the size 11 ½ ring comes with a letter of authenticity from Kaufman’s family and is in “near mint” condition with the original box.
The buy-it now price for the ring is $22,000 and eight offers have been made and rejected. The seller is offering free shipping.
This is one of three Super Bowl rings Kaufman earned in his career. He was a starter on the Super Bowl XXII team and also earned a Super Bowl XXVI ring when he was a scouting supervisor for the Redskins.
