Washington Football Team bans Native American headdresses and face paint from FedEx Field

Washington Football Team fans won't be allowed to wear Native American headdresses or face paint at FedEx Field in 2021.

With fans returning to FedEx Field in 2021, the team put out new fan guidelines Wednesday. One of those guidelines addressed fan attire at the stadium.

"We are excited to welcome everyone back wearing their Burgundy & Gold. However, Native American inspired ceremonial headdresses or face paint may no longer be worn into the stadium."

The franchise changed its name to the Washington Football Team prior to the 2020 NFL season. Fans were not allowed at games due to COVID-19, so the team did not have to address this specific issue last season.

The Team said the new guidelines will "help to provide a safe and enjoyable gameday experience, and the best possible fan experience, for all guests at FedExField."

Washington Football Team name is temporary

The switch to the Washington Football Team might not last long. Though some like the name, team president Jason Wright indicated the franchise will announce a new name and logo in 2022. Early in the process, Wright said the organization would consider keeping the Football Team name, but it appears that will no longer be the case.

Wright has kept fans updated on the team's progress as it decides on a new name. Washington launched a website where fans can submit their own ideas and nicknames for the team. It has also polled season ticket holders on their favorite nicknames.

While the team will once again change its name, Wright has said the burgundy and gold color scheme will remain.
