Wake Forest investigating game-plan breach prior to Louisville loss

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson said Wednesday that his university is investigating what he calls a “game-plan breach” prior to last week’s loss to Louisville.

“There somehow was a breach and I’ve shared it with our AD and we are trying to figure out what happened, and how it happened,” Clawson said.

“We’re trying to figure out what happened. We’re trying to figure out how information got out of our office and that’s where we are with it now. We’re trying to figure out how a breach happened and we’re doing everything we can internally to make sure that all of our information that pertains to us stays in-house.”

Clawson, who noted the breach happened Friday, did not say which documents had gone missing. Athletic director Ron Wellman also declined to elaborate when the Winston-Salem Journal first reported the investigation.

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement he had no knowledge of a breach.

“I have no knowledge of the situation. We take a lot of pride in the way we operate our program. As I’ve stated already this season, my coaching philosophy has always been to play the game with sportsmanship. Right now, our focus is on our game tomorrow at Houston and finishing the 2016 season strong.”

Wake Forest held a 12-0 lead against Louisville and led 12-10 before giving up 34 unanswered points in the third quarter en route to a 44-12 loss, the most lopsided loss for the Demon Deacons this year.

Clawson noted he and his staff have met to discuss security procedures.

“We just met as a staff, and you think of all the ways how information could get out and you think you’re [preventing it],” Clawson said. “But when it comes to your attention that maybe you’re not doing that as well as you need to be, you take every other security measure you can in regard to everything we do, and that’s with your data, with all your different systems, with your information and make sure that everything is secure.”
