Here are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer’s high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees
Caroline Alexander, Davidson Day volleyball: The Patriots’ senior libero had 17 digs in a 3-0 win at University Christian Oct. 1.
Alexander also had four digs in a 3-0 victory over Hickory Christian Oct. 3.
Alexander has 186 digs for Davidson Day (20-3) this season.
Alexander earned her 1,000th career dig for Davidson Day in win over Statesville Christian Sept. 10.
Hunter Bates, Weddington cross-country: The Warriors’ junior won the CISAA Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park in 16 minutes, 20.12 seconds on Oct. 1.
Bates helped the Weddington boys’ cross country team to victory by three points over runner-up Providence Day at the same meet.
Olivia Crowe, Myers Park field hockey: The Mustangs’ senior scored a goal and had three assists to help Myers Park to a 9-0 win over Providence Sept. 30.
Crowe has nine goals and six assists for Myers Park (6-3) this season.
Brody Drake, Piedmont soccer: The Panthers’ star scored two goals in a 5-5 tie with Monroe Sept. 30.
Drake also had two goals and one assist in a 4-2 overtime win at Forest Hills Oct. 3.
Drake has five goals and nine assists for Piedmont (10-3-2) this season.
Holden Dulin, Metrolina Christian soccer: The Warriors’ junior scored two goals in a 6-2 win over Grace Academy Sept. 30.
Dulin also scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Westminster Catawba Oct. 1.
Dulin finished off the week with three goals in a 4-3 loss at SouthLake Christian on a goal goal in sudden death, double overtime Oct. 3.
Dulin has 12 goals and two assists for Metrolina Christian (7-10-1) this season.
Audrey Glosson, Providence Day field hockey: The Chargers’ senior had two goals and two assists in a 5-0 win over Weddington Sept. 30.
The next day, Glosson had one assist in a 2-1 overtime loss at Charlotte Country Day.
Providence Day is 9-6 overall this season.
Clarke Henry, Independence volleyball: The Patriots’ senior outside hitter had 23 kills, 13 digs and six aces in a 3-1 win over Providence Sept. 30.
The next day, Henry had 15 kills, five digs and three blocks in a 3-2 loss at East Mecklenburg.
Henry finished off the week with 20 kills and 15 digs in a 3-0 victory at Union Academy, Oct. 2.
Henry has 245 kills, 130 digs, 38 aces and 18 blocks for Independence (16-5) this season.
Ben Horgan, Gaston Day Soccer, Jr.: The Spartans’ junior scored three goals in a 4-2 win at Gaston Christian, Oct. 3.
The next day, Horgan had three more goals and two assists in an 8-1 victory over the Burlington School.
Horgan has 26 goals and 14 assists for Gaston Day (12-2) this season.
Alyssa Houston, South Iredell cross-country: The Vikings’ junior ran a school-record 18:31.32 to win the Carmel Christian School Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park Oct. 3.
Houston’s run, which was nearly 29 seconds faster than the previous school record (19:00), also helped the South Iredell girls’ cross country team to a 27-point victory over host, Carmel Christian at the same meet.
Omar Ismail, Bradford Prep Soccer: The Bears’ junior had two assists in a 7-0 win over Corvian Charter Oct. 2.
Ismail followed that up with four goals in a 7-0 victory over Parkwood Oct. 4.
Ismail has seven goals and six assists for Bradford Prep (8-2) this season.
Caitlin Kasten, Covenant Day cross-country: The Lions’ sophomore ran a personal-best 17:36.10 to finish fourth overall in the Girls’ Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary Oct. 5.
Kasten was more than three seconds faster than her 17:39.90 time from the same race a year ago.
Eduardo Oliviero, Providence soccer: The Panthers’ senior forward had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 win at East Mecklenburg Sept. 30.
Oliviero also had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 victory at Charlotte Catholic Oct. 1.
Oliviero has one goal and three assists for Providence (10-6-1) this season.
Ava Palmer, Lake Norman Charter: The Knights’ junior shot a 2-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors while leading the Lake Norman Charter girls’ golf team to a 21-shot victory in a South Piedmont 3A conference (SPC) match at Irish Creek Country Club Oct. 1
Palmer’s efforts helped the Lake Norman Charter girls’ golf team clinch the SPC title, qualifying them for a regional berth Oct. 21.
Diego Silva, Garinger soccer: The Wildcats’ senior had two goals and one assist in a 6-0 win at Butler Oct. 1.
Silva also had a goal in a 9-0 win over Rocky River Sept. 30.
Silva has 26 goals and four assists for a Garinger team (12-3-1) that has won seven straight games this season.
Gracie Song, Cuthbertson girls’ golf: The Cavaliers’ junior shot a 4-under-par 68, with two eagles and three birdies in her round, to win the HV3 Ladies’ Tournament at Gaston Country Club Oct. 1.
The next day, Song shot a 2-under-par 33, with three birdies in her round, to help defeat Parkwood at Stonebridge Golf Club.
Hunter Wilkerson, Charlotte Country Day cross-country: The Buccaneers’ senior ran a personal-best 16:22.72 to finish as runner-up in the CISAA Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park Oct. 1.
Wilkerson’s time put him in the top 10 all-time in school history as he led the Charlotte Country Day boys’ cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the CISAA Invitational.
