Vote for The Observer/Deer Park High School defensive Player of the week

Here are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football defensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union Counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park.

This week’s nominees

Chancellor Bryant, Ardrey Kell: in a 38-35 loss to Marvin Ridge, Bryant had 10 tackles, a 93-yard interception for a touchdown, plus five catches, more than 150 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Aydan Cannon, Hickory Grove: in a 47-0 win over South Wake, Cannon had seven tackles, one sackand an interception.

Sam Davis, Cannon School: In a 31-10 win over Ravenscroft, Davis had 13 tackles, a tackle for loss, a third down stop and an interception. Cannon is 3-0.

Micah Gilbert, Charlotte Christian: Notre Dame commit had seven solo tackles and a fumble recovery in Friday’s 41-36 win over N.C. public school power South Point. On offense, he caught 10 passes for 173 yards and two scores.

Alex Koulovatos, Providence: in a 41-20 win over Hunter Huss, Koulovatos had 10 tackles, three tackles for a loss. He forced a fumble, had two sacks and an interception. He also blocked a punt. On offense, he had two touchdown catches.

Paul Love, Forestview: Gaston County star had an interception return for a touchdown in the final minute to perserve Friday’s 27-19 win over Freedom.

Jayce Rowe, East Gaston: junior free safety had five tackles, three pass breakups and an interception in Friday’s 35-14 win over Stuart Cramer. East Gaston (3-0) beat Cramer for the first time in six years.

Lukas “Thor” Santwier, Providence Day: in a 42-7 win over Charlotte Catholic, the senior linebacker had 17 Tackles, four tackles for a loss, a sack, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.

Riley Shropshire, East Lincoln: in a 28-14 win over Lincolnton, Shropshire had four tackles and two interceptions.

Caden Smith, West Lincoln: in a 49-20 win over Fred T. Foard, had six tackles, a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery. On offense, he ran 15 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Reid Tammaro, Pine Lake Prep: in a 46-6 win over Roanoke Rapids, Tammaro had seven tackles, one tackle for a loss, two passes defended and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Tyreese Thames, Forestview: in a 27-19 win over Freedom, the outside linebacker had 11 tackles, including two tackles for a loss.
