Vladdy adds second Player of the Week to his trophy case

While Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s rookie season has been an up-and-down affair, he’s proven that he can get as hot as anyone in the game for short periods of time.

Last week he did just that, hitting .500/.536/.962 in 28 trips to the plate with three home runs and 11 RBI, on the way to his second AL Player of the Week award.

Normally such a performance would draw an enormous amount of attention, but the torrid stretch was actually overshadowed by Bo Bichette’s first games at the highest level. If it’s possible to hit .500 and slug almost 1.000 quietly, that’s precisely what Guerrero Jr. did.

Although there were some concerns about Vladdy having difficultly re-calibrating his swing after an epic Home Run Derby performance, it seems like those worries have been laid to rest. Since the all-star break the 20-year-old has slashed a gaudy .361/.418/.614 in 91 trips to the plate, a dominant stretch that’s giving Blue Jays fans a look at what made him the top prospect in baseball in the first place.

Guerrero Jr.’s season-long slash line is up to .279/.352/.468, good for a 117 wRC+. If he stays as hot at he’s been lately for a little longer he’ll be up to his eye-popping preseason projections in no time.
