Vincenzo Montella was Roma’s first choice prior to Claudio Ranieri
Roma were eyeing Vincenzo Montella as their next head coach prior to the club’s decision to focus on Claudio Ranieri’s return.
As reported by Sky Sport, the chosen one to sit on the Roma bench was Vincenzo Montella.
The Italian coach, however, has an existing contract with Turkey, containing a clause of 1.5 million euros to release him.
Additionally, Montella had two Nations League commitments against Wales (Saturday) and Montenegro (Tuesday) this week.
On the Friedkin side, then, there was the urgency to start working starting tomorrow, the day on which the resumption of training is scheduled.
Hence the need to veer towards Claudio Ranieri, with whom there seem to be the right conditions for an agreement.
