Vincent Trocheck stays hot in Plymouth Whalers' 5-1 win over Saginaw Spirit

SAGINAW, Mich. - Vincent Trocheck scored twice to lead the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-1 victory over the Saginaw Spirit on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Sebastian Uvira had a pair of goals and added an assist for the Whalers (29-16-9), while Matthew Mistele scored as well. Matt Mahalak made 21 saves for the win. Plymouth has won three games straight.

Captain Garret Ross was the lone scorer for the Spirit (26-22-6), as Jake Paterson stopped 35 shots. Saginaw came into the game with seven wins in its past ten games.

Coming off a four-goal game on Sunday against the Brampton Battalion, Trocheck scored both goals in the first period.

The Whalers carried the play in the first period, out shooting Saginaw 17-5.

Trocheck scored the first goal at the 11:49 mark and added his second and 40th of the season, less then six minutes later at 17:19.

Mistele gave the Whalers a commanding 3-0 lead, finishing off a nice three-way passing play from Uvira and Zack Lorentz, at 8:18. Uvira then scored one himself at 12:24 to increase the lead to 4-0.

The second period was all Plymouth, as they outshot Saginaw by a wide 14-5 margin.

Ross scored just over four minutes into the third, but Uvira quickly matched the goal with his second of the night.
