Vikings' final kneel-down had Saints (+5.5) bettors celebrating in Las Vegas

Stefon Diggs’ miraculous last-second touchdown had thousands of Minnesota Vikings fans going crazy on Sunday night. But for thousands of other football fans, the next 10 minutes of confusion were equally as suspenseful.

That’s because the Vikings closed as a 5.5-point favorite at most sportsbooks in Las Vegas. Diggs’ score put Minnesota up five, 29-24. And, even with no time on the clock, a silly NFL rule meant the Vikings had to either kick the extra point or go for two, despite the result being decided.

But every single Saints player, by the time a review of the play had concluded, was off the field, back in the visiting locker room. So for about eight or nine minutes, nobody knew what the Vikings would do on the final play. At one point, it looked from afar like they might even run a play with no defense on the field.

All the while, anybody who bet on the line at 5.5 or 5 had no idea whether or not they would win their bets.

When the Vikings did eventually kneel, some celebrated, or at least breathed a sigh of relief. Others were dejected.

Oh, and this wasn’t just people in Vegas. It was Saints bettors all over the country, and probably all over the world.

It’s not exactly a bad beat. In a way, it’s the absence of one. But for those who had the Saints at +4.5, Diggs’ catch and run must have been gut-wrenching.
