Miami took a hit to its offensive line depth on Monday.

The program announced that Sunny Odogwu, a fifth-year senior, has decided to leave the program. Odogwu made 14 starts at tackle over the last three seasons. The 6-foot-8, 322-pound Odogwu started the first five games of the 2016 season before going down with a season-ending ankle injury. That injury caused him to miss a significant portion of spring practice.

In a press release, Hurricanes coach Mark Richt said Odogwu is hoping to see more playing time wherever he ends up.

“Sunny and I had a good conversation, and he informed me that he feels his best opportunity to get the most playing time would be at another school,” Richt said. “Sunny has been a great teammate and leader for this program, and we will miss him.”

Odogwu, a native of Nigeria, already earned his bachelor’s degree in human resources management, so he will be eligible immediately at his next school as a graduate transfer. At Miami, he was taking graduate classes in international administration.

“I have enjoyed my four years at the University of Miami,” Odogwu said. “I look forward to continuing my playing career elsewhere, but I will always cherish the relationships I’ve built with my teammates, coaches and professors here at The U.”

When Odogwu was injured last year, Tyree St. Louis filled in as a starter for the final eight games. With Odogwu leaving the program, St. Louis should have that spot locked down entering preseason camp.
