Vasilevskiy's save-of-the-year bid on Marleau is absurd

I’ll have to work with our medical sources to try and confirm this, but it’s very possible that Andrei Vasilevskiy was born without any bones in his body whatsoever.

He’s always been a circus freak (in the most complimentary way possible) in the Lightning crease, and even in his first contest back after missing 14 games with an injury, the human slinky showed not one speck of rust as he stole the show in Tampa’s 4-1 win over Toronto on Thursday.

Though several of Vasilevskiy’s season-high 48 saves were of the 10-bell variety, this one, in particular, had the hockey world going nuts:

After Patrick Marleau tried to shovel a backhand past the Lightning netminder’s glove, the puck looked to be destined for the back of the net before Vasilevskiy swooped his leg under the bouncing puck and picked it clean off the goal line with his toe.

Yeah, it was so wild that I truly don’t even think I explained that properly, because I can’t.

It kind of, sort of looked a little flukey at first glance, but as you watch the clip over and over again (which I know you are) you notice Vasilevkiy’s head turns and he picks up the puck with his eyes at the very instant he makes the save.

The Lighting were already terrifying and now this alien goalie is back in the fold. Tough times ahead for the rest of the Eastern Conference, man.
