ANAHEIM, Calif. — Things didn’t look too good for Vanessa Demopoulos about a minute into the first round of her bout with Silvana Gomez Juarez on Saturday on the preliminary card of UFC 270 at the Honda Center.

Juarez caught her on the chin with a crushing right hand in the center of the cage and dropped her. She followed Demopoulos to the canvas and landed a number of big shots from the top, as referee Frank Trigg looked closely at Demopoulos.

Demopoulos admitted she was badly hurt by the right hand, but the power of the shot helped her.

“I woke up when I hit the [canvas],” she said.

And then, she began to do work. Instead of covering up, she looked for a way to win. And "Lil Monster" quickly got Juarez in an armbar and forced the submission. It sent the crowd into a frenzy.

But she won over the crowd even more after the bout. She leapt into the air when the fight ended in celebration and then came down in a full split. And then while she was being interviewed by Joe Rogan in the Octagon, she leaped into his arms.

Rogan finished the interview cradling Demopoulos in his arms as she threw her arms around his neck.

It was quite a night for her as she went from the verge of being knocked out in the first round to winning over a big portion of the fan base with her antics and enthusiasm after an amazing comeback victory.
