Valverde 9.0, Modric 8.5 | Real Madrid 2-0 Villarreal: Player ratings

Injuries to Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior overshadowed a decent performance from Real Madrid who secured the victory against Villarreal.

Federico Valverde and Vinicius were amongst the goals, with the Uruguayan being named as the Man of the Match.

The following ratings reflect how the Real Madrid players fared in this game.

Player ratings:

Andriy Lunin: 6.5

The Ukrainian keeps his first cleansheet of the season. It was an easy one since he had to make just one save during the match despite Villarreal have a crack at goal 12 times.

Dani Carvajal: 7.0

Had a decent outing. Defensively held his ground and combined well with Fede and Modric on the right flank. He would have liked to see someone on the end of his crosses inside the box but to no avail. A cruciate ligament injury in the final minute means that the Madrid vice-captain is done for the season.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.0

A usual day at the office of the German. 3 clearances, 2 tackles and won most of his duels – sums up a total performance at the back and proved to be the leader in defence.

Aurelien Tchouaméni: 7.5

Slotted in well for Eder Militao, proving that he can adapt to any defensive position. Blocked shots, made interceptions, tackles, clearances and won 100% of his duels. A solid outing as centre-back for the Frenchman.

Ferland Mendy: 7.0

Kept his player Nicolas Pepe quiet throughout his duration on the pitch. Way better performance than what was seen against Lille. Would be eager to keep up this form.

Fede Valverde: 9.0

Absolutely immense. His idol Toni Kroos was in the crowd and he surely made the German proud. Seems to have extra lungs in his body, the way he goes in for every tackle, tries to win every ball no matter what the situation of the game. Scored an absolute banger of a goal and ran the show in the midfield as he always does – as easy as you like.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.0

The Frenchman is slowly getting into his groove. Looked way better and composed on the ball as compared to the midweek fixture. Made some important tackles and won 6 out of 9 duels. Got tired and asked Ancelotti to take him off with the Italian obliging.

Luka Modric: 8.5

When players his age have either retired or playing in leagues just to make money, here the Croatian is, pulling the strings in Real Madrid’s midfield at the age of 39. Ran back the good old days as everyone was treated to a Modric special.

Jude Bellingham: 7.5

The Englishman looked composed with the ball at his feet and laid out the ball with ease throughout his time on the pitch. Completed most of his dribbles and had a shot on target too. His slightly deeper role prevents him from being as involved in the attack as last season.

Kylian Mbappe: 6.0

Perhaps his poorest night in a Real Madrid shirt. Since returning from injury early, has looked a bit uncharacteristic. It was surprising to see a player of Mbappe’s caliber to not have a single shot on goal. Hopefully, just a bad day at the office and the international break can do him some good.

Vinícius Júnior: 8.5

This performance was the complete opposite from what was on display against Lille. Caused his marker all sorts of trouble, beating him on multiple occasions. Eventually chose to take a long range shot and scored a breathtaking goal to seal the win for Los Blancos. Hopefully his shoulder injury is not that serious.

Substitutes:

Eder Militao: 6.5

Played alongside Rüdiger for the final 20 minutes of the match. Absolutely no nonsense defending from the Brazilian and kept the Villarreal attack at bay.

Rodrygo: N/A

Played just 6 passes in his 20 minute cameo, hence not enough for the player to warrant a rating.

Arda Güler: N/A

Won two duels but made just 7 passes. Not enough to warrant a rating.

Came on for final minute to see the game out. Not enough to warrant a rating.
