University of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar announced that he has suspended center Malik Dime indefinitely after Dime slapped a student fan who was heckling him during the Huskies’ Thursday night game against Colorado.

“I was caught up in the emotion of the game and allowed my frustrations to influence my behavior,” Dime said in a press statement, per Tim Booth of the Associated Press. “I made a very poor decision, and did not represent my team, my university and my family the way I want to. I am glad I had the chance to apologize in person to the students involved in the altercation, and I am prepared to accept the full consequences of my actions.”

The incident was first reported by BSN Denver’s Jake Shapiro. Shapiro said that there were two students involved in the incident, Brian and Dylan who wanted to be referred to by first name only, and he tweeted a text message exchange with of the students who was allegedly hit by Dime.

Immediately after the game, The Tacoma News Tribune’s Christian Caple asked Romar about the incident. Romar told Caple that he was “aware of it.” But didn’t know the details and “will look into it.”

Dime did not play in UW’s 81-66 loss to Colorado as he has been sidelined for nine consecutive games with a broken finger.
