USC backup QB badly chipped his teeth celebrating during Washington upset

One USC player apparently got a little too excited during the Trojans’ upset win over Washington.

USC’s video team interviewed players in the locker room after the win and found backup quarterback Matt Fink with multiple chipped teeth. Fink’s teeth somehow hit off teammate Connor Murphy’s helmet during a celebration.

That’s a lot of damage! Fink said he doesn’t even remember what play sparked the celebration, either.

“I was jumping up and down and (Murphy’s) helmet just smashed my teeth in. You can see the gash mark of my front tooth on his helmet,” Fink said.

Fink is a true freshman for the Trojans who enrolled early. He is third on the depth chart at quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Max Browne and is in line for a redshirt, so he has plenty of time to get those teeth fixed.

After starting the year 1-3, USC has reeled off six straight wins in Pac-12 play. The win over then-unbeaten Washington was the biggest of all. The Trojans (7-3, 6-2 Pac-12), who are right in the thick of things in the Pac-12 South, will look to keep the streak alive when they face rival UCLA (4-6, 2-5 Pac-12) at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.
