US Open semifinals: Alexander Zverev comes back from two sets down to advance to final

Things looked bleak for Alexander Zverev early, but he never gave up. Zverev rallied from two sets down to defeat Pablo Carreño Busta in the US Open semifinals Friday. With the win, Zverev will play against his good friend Dominic Thiem in the final Sunday.

It wasn’t easy for Zverev, who dropped the first set against Carreño Busta 6-3, and the second set 6-2. At that point, Zverev, who came into the match as the favorite, started to play like it. The 23-year-old rallied all the way back, taking the third set 6-3, the fourth set 6-4 and the final set 6-3 to advance.

It was the first time in Zverev’s career that he came back from a two-set deficit.

Following the contest, Zverev said the key to turning things around was playing more aggressive tennis, according to the Associated Press.

“I had to be more aggressive generally, I think,” Zverev said, “and it turned out well for me.”

In the final, Zverev will be facing Thiem, who defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets on Friday. Neither player has won a Grand Slam in their career.
