US News says this Pennsylvania city is among the 25 ‘best affordable places to live’

The city of Pittsburgh recently took 24th place in a U.S. News & World report ranking for the “best affordable place to live” in the country.

The report highlighted the top 25 affordable spots in the U.S.

The city, in western Pennsylvania, also took 47th place in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2023-2024,” as well as the No. 20 spot in its “Best Places to Retire in the U.S. in 2023-2024.”

U.S. News and World Report analyzed 150 metro areas in the U.S. by quality of life, job market, value of living there and overall desire to live in each area. Pittsburgh ranked right above Montgomery, Ala., in the best affordable place listing and right below Little Rock, Ark.

What to know about Pittsburg, PA

According to the organization, the Pittsburgh metro area has a population of more than 2 million people with an average annual salary of $56,050. The median home price in the area is $222,479, while the median monthly rent sits at $892.

Pittsburgh has many spots for tourists to enjoy, and the highlights include the National Aviary, a nonprofit, indoor zoo with more than 500 birds, the Carnegie Science Center and the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum.

If you’re into outdoor activities, Pittsburgh has several trails you can enjoy via hike or bike. There are also several fishing, kayaking and boating spots, and several golf courses.
