The Ultimate Fighting Championship's first trip to Liverpool, England, may not have produced the barnburner of a fight that the main event promised, but it did set records at the gate.

Hometown hero Darren Till led the charge on Liverpool with a headliner that pitted him against the UFC's top welterweight contender in Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. The two are phenomenal strikers, but didn't quite deliver the fireworks that were expected.

They did, however, pull a record setting crowd to Echo Arena in Liverpool.

“The gate was $1.3 million. It’s the highest grossing sporting event in the arena’s history," UFC president Dana White said after the event, noting that 8,520 attended the event.

Till and Thompson traded shots throughout, but even though it appeared that Thompson was out-striking the Liverpudlian a bit, Till walked away with a unanimous decision on the scorecards.
