UFC on Fox 4 Draws Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida

Ryan Bader and Lyoto Machida attempt to get back in the title hunt when they square off at UFC on Fox 4 on Aug. 4 in Los Angeles.

The UFC confirmed the fight via its official Twitter account on Monday.

Bader (14-2) had been rocketing through the light heavyweight ranks after capturing top honors on The Ultimate Fighter’s season 8. He ran up a record of 12-0 before running into another rising star in now UFC champion Jon Jones; then was upset by Tito Ortiz at UFC 132.

Bader rebounded at UFC 139 with a win over Justin Brilz. He followed that up with a unanimous decision victory over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson earlier this year in Japan.

Machida (17-3) is still in the midst of the roughest patch of his career, however. Although he won and defended the UFC light heavyweight championship in 2009, things have since taken a nosedive.

“The Dragon” has lost three of his last four bouts, albeit to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Rampage, and Jon Jones, respectively. His lone victory during that stretch was a spectacular front kick knockout of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

There has been no announcement of the UFC on Fox 4 main event, although Machida vs. Bader could be a candidate. Former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard will make his Octagon debut against Brian Stann on the Aug. 4 fight card.
