UFC on FOX 21 Results: Demian Maia Makes Quick Work of Carlos Condit with Submission Win

Demian Maia is kind of good at jiu-jitsu.

Maia stopped Carlos Condit in the featured bout at UFC on FOX 21 via first-round submission on Saturday night in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The BJJ ace quickly brought the fight to the floor and transitioned to secure a rear-naked choke to pick up the win at 1:52 of the opening round.

“I hope now I can fight for a title shot,” Maia said, adding that he wants to fight the winner of UFC welterweight champion Tryon Woodley and likely challenger Stephen Thompson.

After each fighter gauged the distance in the stand-up, Maia shot in for a single-leg takedown. He locked onto Condit's leg and forcibly brought the fight to the floor.

Starting from half guard, Maia worked relentlessly and soon advanced to mount. Condit attempted to get to a better position, but Maia swiftly transitioned to and secured the back.

Maia then sank in the rear-naked choke to secure the win and come out on top in the evening's main event.

With the win in Vancouver, Maia gets his sixth victory in a row and makes some serious noise in calling for a welterweight title shot.
