Yahoo Sports UFC fighter says he gave blood to stranger in his home thinking it was a doping test
UFC featherweight Dan Ige woke up Thursday morning to a woman at his Las Vegas doorstep wanting blood.
As a fighter subject to year-round testing from the United States Anti-Doping Association, Ige obliged.
It wasn’t until after he provided the blood sample that he learned that the person drawing blood from his arm was not from USADA.
She made off with his blood anyway, according to Ige’s strange tale told to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
Ige ‘half asleep’ when he provided blood sample
Why didn’t Ige verify the identity of a stranger before letting her stick a needle in his arm? Apparently, he was groggy.
“I was half asleep and just went through with it,” Ige told ESPN. "She took my blood, and after she was like, 'What's your name?' I told her my name, and she goes, 'Oh, you're not John?' I'm like, 'What the f---? No, I'm not John.’”

Why did he let the strange woman make off with his blood once he found out she wasn’t who he thought she was? He said he wasn’t thinking straight.
"The crazy thing was she walked out of my house with my blood,” Ige said. “At the time, I wasn't thinking. I was just like, 'You're not here for me, get out of my house.' My main thing now is I want to get my blood back, or get proof that it was destroyed. I don't want my blood just floating out there."
Bizarre coincidence?
The circumstance appears on the surface to have been a case of mistaken identity and a highly unlikely coincidence rather than some crazy woman sticking Ige with a needle for an unknown nefarious purpose.
According to ESPN, Ige identified a “John” in his neighborhood who was scheduled to give a blood sample in his home Thursday morning to a private lab and that the woman who collected his blood eventually made it to his home.
But he still hasn’t resolved the issue after contacting the lab, according to the report. And there’s still no explanation as to why the blood collector walked away with his blood after realizing she had the wrong person.
There are a lot of unanswered questions here.
Ige said the UFC advised him to file a police report.
