UFC Fight for the Troops 3 Update: Colton Smith vs. Michael Chiesa and Dennis Bermudez vs. Nik Lentz

Ever since announcing Lyoto Machida vs. Tim Kennedy for the UFC Fight for the Troops 3 fight card, the promotion has been busy unleashing additional fights for the Nov. 6 event in Fort Campbell, Ky.

UFC officials on Friday night added Colton Smith vs. Michael Chiesa and Dennis Bermudez vs. Nik Lentz.

Smith vs. Chiesa is a battle of former The Ultimate Fighter winners.

Smith (3-2), an active a U.S. Army Ranger, won the sixteenth season of TUF, defeating Mike Ricci in the final. He followed that up with a loss to TUF: The Smashes winner Robert Whittaker at UFC 160 in May.

Chiesa (9-1) won TUF 15, the only live season of the series, by defeating Al Iaquinta. He followed that with a victory over Anton Kuivanen at UFC 157, but, like Smith, enters this fight coming off of a loss. Jorge Masvidal submitted Chiesa at UFC on Fox 8 in July.

The bout between Bermudez and Lentz is a battle of unbeaten featherweights.

Both men found a modicum of success in the UFC’s lightweight division, but ran into rough patches and made the decision to drop down to 145 pounds. Neither has lost since.

Bermudez (11-3) is on a four-fight winning streak, entering this fight off of a split decision victory over Max Holloway at UFC 160.

Lentz (24-5-2, 1 NC) has won three consecutive bouts, most recently defeating highly touted Brazilian Hacran Dias on his home turf at UFC on FX 8 in Brazil.

UFC Fight for the Troops 3 marks the promotion’s return to a military base for the first time since it landed at Fort Hood in Texas on Jan. 22, 2011.
