UFC Fight Night 82 Results: Mickey Gall Earns a Shot at CM Punk with Quick Submission Win

When it was announced at UFC 181 in November 2014 that former WWE champion CM Punk had signed a multi-fight deal with Ultimate Fighting Championship, no timeframe was set for his first appearance inside the octagon.

Many fighters threw their name in the hat to welcome the 37-year-old into mixed martial arts, but 2015 came and went with no announcement.

While filming the Fight Pass reality series Lookin’ for a Fight, UFC president Dana White discovered 24-year-old Mickey Gall, who was making his professional fighting debut in Philadelphia. Following his first-round submission win over Ron Templeton that night, Gall called out CM Punk with White sitting cage side.

White was impressed with the young fighter’s determination and signed Gall to a contract and stated that if he won his UFC debut that he would face CM Punk later this year.

On Saturday, Gall earned his crack at the former professional wrestler by defeating Mike Jackson by rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night 82 in Las Vegas.

Gall pressured Jackson from the onslaught. He landed a right hand that knocked Jackson to the canvas. Gall followed his opponent to the ground and quickly applied a rear-naked choke. Seconds later, Jackson was tapping out and CM Punk’s first UFC opponent emerged.

“Last time I was on the mic I was talking about one guy. I’m still thinking about one guy,” he said following his UFC debut win. “I want to be fed. I’m hungry. Feed me CM Punk please!”

Punk entered the octagon accompanied by UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and faced off with his opponent.

The date for CM Punk’s UFC debut wasn’t revealed, but it was stated that it will take place ‘later this year.’
