UFC Fight Night 71 Fighter Bonuses: Mir and Ferguson Lead the Charge on Bonuses

Tony Ferguson Injured; Rashad Evans vs. Glover Teixeira Now Headlines UFC on FOX 19

Following a flurry of activity for UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas last week, the UFC didn't waste any time and kept the momentum rolling forward with UFC Fight Night 71: Mir vs. Duffee in San Diego on Wednesday night.

All the focus last week was on Chad Mendes vs. Conor McGregor and Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald, and those fighters and others delivered. But that only seemed to be infectious as several fighters also delivered exciting fights and finishes in San Diego.

When all was said and done, it was easy to see that Frank Mir would be one of the bonus winners. He and Todd Duffee traded blow for blow in their brief, but explosive main event, with Mir eventually scoring the knockout blow that earned him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

The other Performance bonus went to Tony Ferguson, who put on a striking clinic against Josh Thomson. Ferguson softened him up with kicks and knees to the body, opened him up with brutal elbows to the head, and basically threw any and every technique you could think of at his veteran opponent.

Ferguson got the victory, but couldn't find the finish, if only due to the tenacity and heart of Thomson, who just would not stay down.

Fight of the Night honors went to the main card opener between Alan Jouban and Matt Dwyer, and anyone who saw the fight would immediately understand why. There were more momentum shifts in the fight than you could count. Each had the other hurt at several points, but neither could finish the other, although Jouban walked away the victor.

Jouban and Dwyer each were awarded a $50,000 bonus for their Fight of the Night effort.
