UFC Fight Night 61 Results: Marion Reneau Triangle Choke Upsets Jessica Andrade

UFC women’s bantamweight fighter Marion Reneau is wasting no time establishing herself as a threat. Debuting in the Octagon with a victory over Alexis Dufresne to start off 2015, Reneau make a quick return to upset Jessica Andrade on Sunday.

The two met on Andrade’s home turf at UFC Fight Night 61 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, but the advantage didn’t last long.

Andrade stormed the cage from the opening bell with a flurry of heavy punches that rocked Reneau, but the American quickly began returning fire.

The Brazilian looked much stronger and more powerful, as she pressed the fight on Reneau. Andrade landed another flurry of power shots, dropping Reneau to the canvas.

Andrade followed her down, but shortly after she hit the mat, Reneau threw her legs around the Brazilian’s neck for a triangle choke. Andrade defended for a bit, but Reneau kept attacking with punches and elbows from her back. Bloodying Andrade's nose, she then cinched the triangle even tighter, forcing Adrade to tap out less than two minutes into the fight.

In her first two months in the Octagon, Reneau has scored back-to-back victories, improving her record to 6-1 and serving notice that she is a contender to be reckoned with.

Andrade drops to 12-4, having a three-fight winning streak halted by the loss.
