UFC Fight Night 61 Gate and Attendance for Bigfoot vs. Mir

UFC Fight Night 61 Gate and Attendance for Bigfoot vs. Mir

The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its first trip to Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on Sunday for UFC Fight Night 61: Bigfoot vs. Mir.

The UFC drew a crowd of 5,080 for the heavyweight-headlined card. That may sound like a small number, but according to UFC officials, it was a sellout.

“We’re actually limited in the capacity here. We actually sold out,” said UFC Chief Content Officer Marshall Zelaznik at the post-fight press conference.

Nine of the 11 bouts on the card at the Gigantinho Gymnasium were won by the underdog, including the main event.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir ended a career-threatening four-fight skid by toppling home country favorite Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

Despite Silva’s size advantage, Mir used a lengthy period of time off to retool his game, using it to great effect on Sunday. His hands in particular looked much more sharp than in the past.

Mir used a crisp jab to set up power punches that sent Silva crashing to the canvas, where he finished the fight with a few follow-up strikes to score his first victory since December of 2011.
