UFC 184 Results: Roan Carneiro Puts Mark Munoz to Sleep

Heading into their UFC 184 Prelims headlining bout, Mark Munoz and Roan Carneiro couldn’t have been any more at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Munoz had spent nearly two of the last three years nursing injuries, losing three of his four most recent bouts. Carneiro entered the fight on the heels of a five-fight winning streak, including three of those in a single-night, eight-man tournament that he won.

Carneiro didn’t skip a beat from his impressive tournament performance, making quick work of Munoz, who hadn’t set foot in the Octagon since last May.

Munoz tried to shoot on Carneiro early, but the Brazilian sprawled and put Munoz on his back. With Carneiro working from side control, Munoz tried to scramble, but gave up his back in the process.

Carneiro latched on a rear naked choke and didn’t let go until Munoz went completely out and the referee waved off the fight at 1:40 of round one.

Carneiro had a previous tenure in the UFC, exiting the promotion in 2008 after going 2-3. With the win over Munoz, he has since gone 8-1.
