UFC 172 Loses Fight, Card Reduced to Ten Bouts

The UFC debut of Joe Ellenberger, brother of UFC welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger, has been nixed. His opponent, Vagner Rocha, has been forced out of Saturday's UFC 172 due to a last-minute injury during training in Baltimore.

UFC officials announced the unfortunate news Wednesday evening.

The two were supposed to have have fought on the Fox Sports 1 preliminary portion of the UFC 172 fight card. Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defends his belt in the night's main event against Glover Teixeira.

Ellenberger had originally been slated to fight Yancy Medeiros on the card, but Medeiros was pulled from the fight to replace Bobby Green on the UFC 172 main card opposite Jim Miller. Rocha stepped in to face Ellenberger, but now the fight is off of the card altogether.

The UFC 172 fight card will now proceed with 10 bouts. Danny Castillo vs. Charlie Brenneman will move from the UFC Fight Pass prelims onto the FOX Sports 1 prelim broadcast.
