The Two Worst Defeats In Rangers History

No National Hockey League team had its roster more devastated by World War Two enlistments than the Rangers and it showed on the ice.

Starting with the 1942-43 season and even after the war's end, the Blueshirts were dismal failures. But two games in the 1943-44 campaign were sorrowful Exhibits A and B.

On January 23, 1944, the Blueshirts were crushed 15-0 by Detroit at Olympia Stadium. Then on February 3, 1944, the New Yorkers returned to the Motor City and lost 12-2.

In the latter contest Syd Howe – no relation to Gordie – scored six goals.
