Two people die, including 1-year-old, in crash along Highway 99 in Northern California

A woman and baby died following a multiple-vehicle crash in Gridley on Friday, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials responded to a head-on collision involving two vehicles in the area of Highway 99 and Pease Road. A third vehicle rear-ended one of the first two vehicles.

It’s unclear what time the crash occurred.

Allyson Nohelia Navarro-Salazar, 21, of Gridley and a 1-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger in the same vehicle as those two was transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with major injuries.

Others involved in the crash suffered injuries but they were not life-threatening, according to a statement from Sheriff’s Office.

The California Highway Patrol will be investigating the crash.
