Two killed in Crawford County fire identified as mother and son, fire chief says

A mother and son died in a house fire in Crawford County early Monday morning, according to Crawford fire chief Randy Pate.

The fire department responded to a call at about 5 a.m. at 982 Georgia Highway 42 in Musella about a house on fire. When firemen arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames, Pate said.

Ruthnell Jordan, 80, and her son Dennis Jordan, 54, both died in the blaze, according to Pate. Crawford coroner Sheldon Mattox pronounced the two dead, according to a statement from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

It was unclear what started the fire, but Crawford County fire was investigating the cause Monday morning. Pate said the fire department was still working through the debris at the house.

The bodies were sent to the GBI crime lab for autopsy.
