On a Monday night in Sacramento, two Kings fans took it upon themselves to bring their own snacks to the basketball game.

Your eyes are not deceiving you. That lady really is polishing off a can of Best Foods mayo.

Why, though? Theory One is that she views mayo as a healthy alternative to other snacking options typically made available at basketball games. Is this fact or fiction? Let’s dive into the numbers.

For one tablespoon of Best Foods mayo, there are 90 calories, 10 grams of fat, and zero grams of protein. While mayo seems to be lacking in nutritional value, it does offer a sugar-free option, and each jar of Best Foods mayo consists of at least 50% cage-free eggs.

Petra Greek, a concession stand located inside the Golden 1 Center offers a healthy, 180 calorie Greek salad. When considering one of these salads is equal to two tablespoons of mayo, it hardly makes sense that mayo is a healthier alternative. It is fair to throw the healthy eating theory out the window.

We have now established one thing for certain. This fan is certainly doing this for air-time.

Theory Two, this is a sham. While one certainly would assume that it is mayo she is eating, one can not be certain. The package was already opened when the camera caught a glimpse of her indulging in the mayo. Could there be a foreign substance in the mayo jar? Vanilla pudding and yogurt seem to be the likely alternatives.

Theory Three, she really is a mayo enthusiast. At first, this seems like a completely plausible scenario. She loves mayo so much, that she really wants to bring it wherever she goes. There is a deeply rooted question involved with this theory, however. Would someone who loves mayo really bring it with them to a basketball game? Food cravings are something that come and go. Somebody who really loves mayo would probably wait till after the game to give in to their craving, or order a sandwich at the stadium and ask for mayo on it. We’ll leave this theory at inconclusive for the time being.

Lastly, this could be a grass-roots advertising technique employed by Best Foods mayo. This lady is purely an actor aiding the company in an attempt to gain traction in the cut-throat dressing and condiment market. If it was, job well done Best Foods, you won this round.
