Tristan Thompson will play for Canada: report

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson will reportedly play for Canada's national team in its last-chance Olympic qualifying tournament next week.

Cleveland.com cites sources as saying the 25-year-old Toronto native will join the squad for the tournament in Manila July 4-10. The winner will earn the right to play in Rio. Canada's first game is July 5 vs. Turkey.

Thompson is coming off a long playoff run that saw his Cavaliers win the NBA championship. He did not play for Canada at last summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Canada's team features three other NBA players — Cory Joseph (Toronto Raptors), Tyler Ennis (Milwaukee Bucks) and Joel Anthony (Detroit Pistons) as well as former No. 1 draft pick Anthony Bennett. Andrew Wiggins, a star with the Minnesota Timberwolves, has said he will not play for Canada this summer.
