Transfer news - LIVE!

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham remain major players during this summer’s transfer window. Indeed, Raheem Sterling has agreed a move to Stamford Bridge after holding positive talks with Thomas Tuchel and a deal to sign the England international is now in its final stages. With Liverpool, PSG, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also expressing an interest in the forward, that is quite a coup for co-owner Todd Boehly.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have finally secured Gabriel Jesus and can now focus on bolstering other areas in Mikel Arteta’s squad. To that end, Youri Tielemans of Leicester City remains a key target, with the midfielder not having signed a new deal in the East Midlands. Elsewhere in north London, Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on luring another central defender to the club despite a loan deal for Clement Lenglet being close to completion. Away from the London scene, Cristiano Ronaldo could see his attempts to leave Manchester United undermined by the fact Bayern Munich have confirmed they won’t be signing him. Gabriel Jesus is the headline arrival of course but sporting director Edu has also hinted more could soon follow him through the door.

Now, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided an exciting update.

Speaking to the Que Golazo Podcast, he said: “A winger, they wanted Raphinha, but now that is not the case as we mentioned, it’s Chelsea and Barcelona.

“So, for Arsenal we will see if they go for another winger. We had rumours about Gnabry, but I’m told he’s not on Arsenal’s list. I will try to let you know who the player is. I have an indication but I can’t speak yet because I have to check and make sure it’s the right name. I am working on it, they’re very good at keeping it quiet this summer.”

“If Lenglet comes in, obviously there’s Davies there as well, I would like one more and I think Conte would like one more,” said Sky reporter Michael Bridge.

“But again, where does Rodon go? Does Sanchez go? I think Tanganga will stay because he’s homegrown and Spurs are running out of homegrown players, so I still think Spurs will look to get another defender in.”

Arsenal: Youri Tielemans a key target

Tuesday 5 July 2022 13:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

With Arsenal’s attack now strengthened in the form of Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus, attentions must now turn elsewhere.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on bolstering his options in midfield too, with Leicester City star Youri Tielemans frequently touted as a target.

The Belgian, along with Lazio’s Sergej Milnkovic-Savic, are both said to be under consideration.

Still, speaking to the Que Golazo podcast, noted transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has claimed it is the Leicester star who remains Arsenal’s priority.

“I see some of these names mentioned. Milinkovic-Savic is always mentioned in the Italian press, but Lazio want €75-80million (£68.7million) for Milinkovic-Savic, so it is a really complicated one,” he said.

“I am sure that Tielemans is a good opportunity because he is out of contract next summer.

“He is not extending his Leicester contract, so this is why Arsenal are exploring that possibility more than Milinkovic-Savic today.”

Martinez wants Arsenal or Man United move

Tuesday 5 July 2022 13:28 , George Flood

Arsenal and Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez has informed Ajax of his desire to play in the Premier League, writes Simon Collings.

The Argentine defender is currently being courted by both clubs, who have each held talks over a deal.

Ajax are holding out for a fee in the region of £45million as they are under no financial pressure to sell this summer after already banking around £50m from the departures of Ryan Gravenberch and Sebastien Haller.

Martinez, for his part, is keen to test himself in the Premier League and has told Ajax of his desire to do so - but he is not currently forcing a move.

Arsenal and Manchester United are expected to hold further talks with Ajax this week over a deal for the centre-back, with both clubs eager to wrap up a move before they depart for their respective pre-season tours.

Chelsea want De Ligt or Ake this week

Tuesday 5 July 2022 13:16 , George Flood

Chelsea hope to complete the signing of one of their two main defensive targets this week as they continue negotiations over Nathan Ake and Matthijs de Ligt, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The Blues are considering a move for Cristiano Ronaldo amid uncertainty over his future at Manchester United, but the need to sign at least one new centre-back is a priority for Thomas Tuchel before the squad fly to America on Saturday for their pre-season tour.

Chelsea need to rebuild their defence this summer after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers and want to act swiftly on Dutch defenders Ake and De Ligt.

They could face serious competition from Bayern Munich for De Ligt, with the German champions confident they can hijack their bid for the 22-year-old.

Bayern do not want to be drawn into a bidding war with their wealthier Premier League rivals and have instead worked on convincing the player to reject a move to Chelsea.

Alan Smith believes Arsenal have landed a “coup” following the £45m signing of Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian’s arrival was confirmed on Monday as Mikel Arteta officially welcomed his leading attacking target to the club, with the former Manchester City striker penning a five-year contract in north London.

Handed the no.9 shirt, the signing of a four-time Premier League winner is a major statement as Arteta continues his rebuild. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang forced out earlier this year, Jesus will battle Eddie Nketiah for a starting berth through the middle of Arsenal’s youthful attack.

Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli are further options, while 19-year-old winger Marquinhos and 22-year-old attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira have also been signed this summer.

Jorginho: Midfielder’s ‘priority’ is to stay at Chelsea

Tuesday 5 July 2022 09:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

Clearly, there are great concerns at Chelsea as things stand.

Having lost Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Romelu Lukaku, the club are yet to make a major men’s first-team signing under new co-owner Todd Boehly.

Still, it’s worth keeping in mind that both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are into the final year of their contracts. Two key players under Thomas Tuchel, risking them following Rudiger and Christensen out of the door on a free is a worry.

Jorginho’s agent, however, has revealed the Italian’s priority is to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea are the priority,” Joao Santos told Tuttomercatoweb.

“The contract will expire in 2023, I think we will talk about the renewal from September.”

The great Crisitano Ronaldo debate continues.

One of the most celebrated players in the history of the game, it’s equally hard to doubt the fact playing a 37-year-old at centre-forward changes how a team must play, particularly during an age in which pretty much all of the leading teams in Europe adopt a high-pressing style.

Still, Chelsea have been linked with what would be a sensational move for the forward, with former England cricket star Kevin Pietersen a big advocate.

Richarlison backed for Tottenham success

Tuesday 5 July 2022 08:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

While Tottenham’s ambitious move for Richarlison is broadly seen as a positive heading into the new season, there has been some doubt as to where the £60m star would feature.

Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski form one of the most prolific frontlines in Europe and ousting any of those could prove difficult.

Speaking to Betfair, however, Brazilian legend Rivaldo has backed his compatriot.

“I believe this is a great transfer for him as it will allow him to play for a top club in the Premier League and also compete in the Champions League in 2022-23,” he said.

“Furthermore, he might form a fantastic trio with Son and Harry Kane in attack. So, I think it is a great move for him and I’m anxious to start watching him play at a club with big ambitions for next season under Antonio Conte.”
