Tottenham will be desperate to begin replicating their European form on the Premier League stage when they play host to Burnley today.

Spurs were impressive again against albeit limited opposition in the Europa League on Thursday night, with Dele Alli the star man as Jose Mourinho’s side wrapped up an emphatic 8-1 aggregate victory over Austrian minnows Wolfsberger, setting up a last-16 meeting with Dinamo Zagreb.

Tottenham haven’t lost a game in that competition this season, though in the top-flight it’s a very different story at the moment.

The north Londoners have tasted defeat in five of their last six League outings, piling the pressure on Mourinho and leaving his team sitting ninth and nine points adrift of the top four with 14 games remaining.

The pressure is on to beat a Burnley side that have been held to back-to-back draws by relegation battlers in West Brom and Fulham following their eye-catching 3-0 win at Crystal Palace earlier this month.

Tottenham vs Burnley team news

Serge Aurier could return for Spurs on Sunday following a calf injury that has ruled him out of each of the last four games, though he may not start with Japhet Tanganga expected to continue at right-back.

The game will come too soon for Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who is working on his fitness after a hamstring issue.

Gareth Bale is in line to make only his third League start of the season against Burnley, though Dele is likely to be on the bench despite his excellent second-leg display against Wolfsberger.

Spurs squad from: Lloris, Hart, Whiteman, Aurier, Tanganga, Doherty, Reguilon, Davies, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Rodon, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Sissoko, Winks, Dele, Bergwijn, Lamela, Bale, Lucas, Son, Kane, Vinicius.

Burnley have been battling something of an injury crisis of late, though Dale Stephens and Chris Wood are in line to play this weekend, while Jay Rodriguez is fit after a couple of knocks.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Robbie Brady and Ashley Barnes are all out, while it remains to be seen if Erik Pieters will be fit enough to feature.

Lineups

Tottenham: Lloris; Tanganga; Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Bale, Lucas, Son; Kane

Burnley: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Brownhill, Cork, Westwood, McNeil; Wood, Rodriguez

Tottenham vs Burnley prediction - 2-0 home win

There can be no excuses here for Spurs, who really need to win to ease some of the pressure mounting on Mourinho.

They have been listless in the League for too long and need to snap out of it and start putting a run of victories together if they are to challenge to get back into the top six.

Like West Brom a couple of weeks ago, this game could offer the perfect chance for some brief respite.

Burnley have won just three games on the road this term and are the Premier League’s lowest scorers with only 18 goals in 25 games, though they aren’t adverse to a sizable away scalp as we saw when they ended Liverpool’s long unbeaten run at Anfield last month.
