Raptors set new franchise record for largest margin of victory against Pacers

The 2019-20 season continues to be filled with impressive accomplishments for the Toronto Raptors.

In the team’s second contest following the All-Star break, the Raptors were relentless in all facets of their clash with the Indiana Pacers at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday. Their strong play at both ends of the floor resulted in Toronto coming away with a 127-81 win.

The 46-point triumph breaks their franchise record for largest margin of victory. The previous mark was 44 points — set in December 2016 against the Atlanta Hawks — according to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.

While I’m no basketball expert, that’s not a bad way for Nick Nurse to pick up the 100th regular-season win of his NBA coaching career. Amazingly, it’s only taken him 139 games to reach the milestone.

Pascal Siakam led things offensively with a game-high 21 points. He was one of six Raptors to score at least 12 points. Of that group, three of them came off the bench: Matt Thomas (17), Terence Davis (13) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (12).

In fact, it was a couple of smooth 3-pointers by Thomas in the final minutes of the fourth quarter that helped Toronto establish the new mark.

Kyle Lowry (16 points, 11 assists) and Serge Ibaka (15 points, 15 rebounds) both finished with double-doubles. In the process, Lowry extended his career-long double-double streak to six games, per Lewenberg.

Domantas Sabonis and Aaron Holiday each chipped in a team-high 14 points for Indiana in the loss.

Toronto, winners of 17 of their last 18 games, improved to 42-15 while Indiana fell to 33-24.

In the game that previously held the record, the Raptors destroyed the Hawks 128-84 at home on Dec. 3, 2016. DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 21 points and was one of eight Toronto players to score at least ten points. Lowry (17), Patrick Patterson (17), Terrence Ross (15), Siakam (14), Lucas Nogueira (11), Demarre Carroll (10) and Cory Joseph (10) were the others.

Current Raptor Fred VanVleet scored five points in four minutes of that game, while Norman Powell added four in seven.
