Leafs' Tyson Barrie did not return vs. Oilers due to ankle injury

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tyson Barrie left Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers after blocking a shot in the first period and did not return due to an ankle injury.

It appeared briefly that Barrie would return for the start of the second period, but he went back to the locker room after trying to skate before the game resumed. The 28-year-old initially tested his foot out during a television timeout in the first period but went straight back to the dressing room after skating gingerly on his left leg.

Barrie got in the way of a shot from Oilers defenceman Ethan Bear and went down hard to the ice immediately.

“No update other than his x-rays he had were negative, but he just didn't feel comfortable enough to go back. So we'll have to just see how he is when we get home,” Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said to TSN’s Kristen Shilton post-game.

Through the previous 33 games, Barrie has three goals and 13 points.
