Top five 'Sound FX' Super Bowl clips: Julian Edelman's optimism, and his 'crazy' catch

Julian Edelman knew.

The New England Patriots receiver knew he made one of the most unbelievable catches you’ll ever see.

“I caught it! I caught it!” Edelman yelled as he was still on the ground following his unbelievable Super Bowl LI catch.

And Edelman knew that the Patriots would come back and win.

“Gonna be a hell of a story,” Edelman said at halftime, with the Patriots trailing 21-3, and he’d repeat that to his teammates at 28-3 too.

The NFL Network’s “Sound FX” had some fantastic moments, but Edelman stole the show. His unwavering optimism was one of the themes of the episode. And thankfully he was wearing a microphone for his epic catch. He argued with Falcons cornerback Brian Poole as the play was being reviewed (“I caught it. Crazy. I swear to God,” Edelman said). Edelman was still talking about it as he lined up for the next play against cornerback Robert Alford.

“That’s crazy. My bad,” he told Alford.

Many times through the show Edelman told his teammates they could come back, and that exemplified the Patriots’ will to win Super Bowl LI.

Those two Edelman clips are the highlight, but three other clips stood out in a memorable “Sound FX” episode:

Edelman: “For your mom”

Edelman was the star of the show. Right before overtime, Edelman tells Tom Brady, “For your mom.” Brady’s mom Galynn has been dealing with an illness and that was one of the biggest stories of Super Bowl week.

During the “Sound FX” episode, it also shows Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount telling Galynn Brady after the game, “This was for you.”

Mohamed Sanu’s comedy

Sanu, the Atlanta Falcons’ receiver, was the other star because of his running comedy show. After Tom Brady gained 15 yards on a third quarter run, Sanu had a joke for Julio Jones next to him on the bench.

“You know when you’re watching film, and you hold the slow mo?” Sanu said. “That’s what it looked like.”

There was also a prescient moment between Sanu and Falcons receiver Taylor Gabriel when the Falcons had a big lead.

“They ain’t never met nothing like this,” Sanu said.

“It’s Tom Brady though, man,” Gabriel said.

Patriots can’t believe Julio Jones’ catch

Had the Falcons held on to win Super Bowl LI, Jones’ circus catch would have been the signature play of the game. It’s fun to watch the Patriots react to the catch on the sideline, at first believing he didn’t catch it, and then stunned over the realization he did.

“That’s an amazing catch,” Blount said.
