Top 6 moments from the 2017 NHL Winter Classic
The St. Louis Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium on Monday. Two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko helped the home side give Chicago their fifth loss in their last six games and drop the Blackhawks’ record in outdoor games to 1-4-0.
Despite some scare with rain and a fogged out Gateway Arch in the backdrop, the game went off without a hitch.
Here are six of our favorite moments from the NHL’s ninth Winter Classic.
1. Vladimir Tarasenko’s third period
The Blues’ superstar scored twice in a span of 113 seconds in the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and help St. Louis to a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks. Tarasenko was in a shooting mode all game finishing with 13 shot attempts and one post. He now has 12 goals against Chicago in 19 career regular season games.
2. Corey Crawford would appreciate if you didn’t trip him
Midway through the second period, the Blackhawks netminder was tripped up by Blues forward David Perron after a retrieving the puck behind his net. Crawford did not forget who did that moments later when Perron came back into the zone and was on the receiving end of a whack.
3. The MIA ceremonial face-off puck
The father-son duo of Bobby and Brett Hull did the honors for the ceremonial face-off before the game, and it nearly didn’t happen because one important thing was missing: The puck.
4. Jon Hamm’s reminder that Jeremy Roenick never won a Stanley Cup
Actor and loyal @StLouisBlues fan Jon Hamm is in the house, and @Jeremy_Roenick caught up with him! pic.twitter.com/6pVDJ9y3lU

The “Mad Men” star was in the crowd at Busch Stadium and was found by the Roenick for an NBC interview. While talking about the Blues’ past and their lack of Cups, Hamm brought up Roenick’s missed opportunities to win a title of his own. Some subtle Blues fan on Blackhawks legend trolling, perhaps?
5. Ken Hitchcock’s fashion choices
Hitch went with the shades and tuque look during Winter Classic practice day on Sunday and then went all-in with the varsity jacket and trilby hat for the game.
Hitchcock said hat store suggested he wear a sombrero. "I told them no because i'm round enough as it is." #Blues #WinterClassic #beauty

6. Bob Costas channels his inner Nelly
Nelly performed during the Winter Classic fan fest and even did a media availability where he talked about his love of the Blues’ outdoor game jerseys and 3-on-3 overtime. In throwing to said performance, NBC’s Bob Costas made us all cringe in trying to work lyrics from “Hot in Herre” into his introduction of the St. Louis-born hip hop star.
Honorable mention: Roberto Luongo is still not pleased he didn’t start the 2014 Heritage Classic.
Man it would suck if these guys waited their whole lives to play in an outdoor game and then couldn't to due to unforeseen circumstances ????
