He’s back, folks.

After nearly decapitating St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist with a devastating pre-season hit, Tom Wilson made his return to the Capitals lineup on Tuesday night, and his first game back — to the delight of Caps fans and probably the chagrin of everyone else — was very productive in a very Tom Wilson kind of way.

With the opening period winding down, Wilson got his name back on the scoresheet for the first time this season.

Not only did he bury a greasy one driving hard to the net, Wilson somehow received a goalie interference penalty on the same play — despite all odds. No idea how this is even possible, but nothing is cut and dry when it comes to this guy, is it?

Naturally, Wilson dropped the mitts and tossed a few knuckles in his first game back, too, going toe-to-toe in a spirited scrap with the Wild’s Marcus Foligno.

Incase anyone was wondering if the recent suspension would yield a more timid, less-aggressive style of play from the 24-year-old, this pretty much answers that little mystery.

Wilson originally received a 20-game ban for his preseason hit on Sundqvist, but that suspension was reduced to 14 contests by a neutral arbitrator, and he was immediately eligible to play in tonight’s game against Minnesota.

He was back up on the first line alongside Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, and finished his first meaningful game in nearly five months with a goal, seven penalty minutes, a hit and a plus-2 rating in 16:47 TOI.
