Tom Brady’s fun vacation Instagram video has turned into another opportunity for people to criticize his parenting decisions on social media.

The New England Patriots quarterback posted a video of him and his 6-year-old daughter, Vivian, cliff jumping in Costa Rica. They check all the boxes on the typical parent-child risky activity matrix. Brady very carefully makes his way to where she’s standing. His giant hand clasps her small one. He asks her if she’s ready at least twice, and then counts to three. Brady’s a man of no hesitation, so he jumps after he says “three.” But Vivian wasn’t quite with him.

They both made it to the water perfectly fine and without harm, and Brady posted it with this caption: “If Vivi is going to be an Olympic champion one day, it probably won’t be in synchronized diving. Daddy always gives her a 10 though!” The video of one of the many awkward moments that happen while raising kids obviously gave Brady a laugh, so he posted it. And later on he replied to his own post with “I didn’t want to be the first Brady to fall off a cliff!”

But not everyone found the post to be so amusing. The video inspired backlash from people who thought Brady was being irresponsible and reckless with Vivian. Replies on Instagram pointed out how she could have hit the rocks had her dad not been with her, and that she looked like a “rag doll” during the jump. One person even called for an NFL investigation because of how hard he appeared to pull on her arm as he jumped.

A celebrity even gave Brady a little tough talk on the video. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the action star and former wrestler, sent Brady this comment:

"You KNOW I have complete faith in you as a man, friend, player and father – but this just gave me anxiety. Geeezus 😂👏🏾👏🏾.”

But some people took the video as Brady likely meant it: a funny, awkward parenting moment. Diddy and Stephen Curry, who are both parents, replied with the crying laughing emoji. And Brett Favre decided to reply in true dad form: “She is a 10 but old dad gets a👎😂😂😂”

Who knows if Brady pays attention to the replies on his Instagram posts. If he doesn’t, then he has no idea that people are criticizing his parenting. And considering how much blowback he gets when he posts even the most innocuous video, it’s probably better that way.
